This morning we would like to share with you a tune from an artist we are all extremely proud of, the lovely, and talented Lauren Murphy Entertainer. "The Dreadful Wind and The Rain," a murder ballad, penned by an anonymous author, originates from fourteenth century England. The song tells the tale of two sisters, and their jealousy over a suitor. This is Lauren Murphy's take, which adds the twist of a haunting and unforgettable "Bridge" to the song, that was never present in any other version known to date. Lauren's version features Dave Zirbel on dobro, Johnny "Mojo" Flores on 1957 Supro Slide, Paul Olguin on stand up bass, Vince Littleton on percussion, and Lauren, herself, on Vocals, and Rhythm Guitar. Add the Production & Additional Arrangement by Mooka Rennick of Prairie Sun Studios, Cotati, Ca, and you have one of the most unique renditions of "The Dreadful Wind and The Rain." Now sit back, close your eyes, and let Lauren tell you a story. (Photo Courtesy of Chad EdwardsMCE Photography, Fairhope Al.)

Grammy Nominated Producer Mooka Rennick & Lauren Murphy team up for her first solo CD in nearly a decade.

"El Dorado" will be dedicated in tribute to my late husband, vocalist & songwriting partner, Judge Murphy, who I recently lost to a 4 year battle with Cancer and Organ Transplant Failure.

I'm a veteran performer/songwriter based out of The Sierra Nevada in California, and this will be my first solo album in nearly a decade. For the last 15 years I sang along side my husband Judge in the bands ZERO & Lansdale Station. From 2005-2013, my focus was writing for our five-piece rock band, and now I need a current product in hand to represent where I am and where I'm going. I have many great opportunities ahead, but after eight years as a band leader I need something that represents where I stand now.

I'm recording with Grammy nominated Producer, Mooka Rennick, at Prairie Sun Studios, in Cotati, CA. The record will feature many notable players I've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with over the last 15 years of my career, as well as some new hot rod mountain pickers I've recently discovered. Mooka knows how to capture the "magic" that makes the difference between good art and truly great art.

Mooka & I (and You!) are producing a solid Americana experience that fuses "natural performance" and "high fidelity". The songs take the listener on a journey through the mountains of the heart, with a cast of resilient characters. It's not just about suffering. It's about strength and redemption. In the end, it's all about hope and appreciation for this brief but beautiful life.

The total cost for this record is estimated at $13,000, but I'm asking my friends and fans to meet me half way at $6500, and be a part of making "El Dorado" a reality.

Stay tuned! Lauren is fulfilling not only her dream,  but one of Judge's last wishes for her to record her new compositions, at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati, Ca. Working with Grammy Nominated Producer, Mooka Rennick, this collection of songs will be Lauren's best work of career thus far. Many notable veteran players will grace the record, as well as some new hot shot mountain pickers Lauren's met in her travels over the last 13 months. Connect on Facebook to see updated photos for sessions when available. Cd Release date goal will be to commemorate Judge's life, one year from his passing on 9-15-2014. Stay tuned for her Kickstarter Campaign, where you too can be a part of the creative process.

We're sad to report that Bay Area fixture Judge Murphy passed away earlier today. Guitarist Steve Kimock, who was a band mate of Murphy's in Zero, shared the following on his Facebook Page, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that our beloved brother Judge Murphy passed away this afternoon at 1:05PM pst. He was in his mountain home surrounded by the deep love of his family & friends. His courage and strength have been nothing short of heroic. We love you Judge; you will be deeply missed and always remembered." Judge joined Zero in 1991, adding a voice to a band that had previously focused on instrumental material. More recently he fronted Lansdale Station with longtime partner Lauren Murphy. Read more here:
Touring artist Murphy is best known for her work with the band Zero (Steve Kimock, Greg Anton and Robert Hunter) and Lansdale Station. Having relocated from the Bay Area to the Sierra foothills her new compositions are notably some of the best in her career, gaining wide recognition with near viral status on social media. read more
Judge Murphy, best known as the lead singer for the Marin-based jam band Zero, died Sept. 15 at his home in El Dorado County after a long bout with liver cancer. He was 63. In recent years, Mr. Murphy sang with his wife, Lauren, in Lansdale Station, a group named after a former railroad stop in San Anselmo. He continued to perform during his illness, and last appeared with Lansdale Station at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley on Sept. 6, a little more than a week before he died. READ ON at

RIDING THE STORM - JUDGE & LAUREN MURPHY / LANSDALE STATION The brisk days of bay area winter are the impetus for an escape from the mainstream & the responsibilities that define it. Judge Murphy, the prodigal son who has conquered the medicinal demons of the last two years has provided that escape along with one of San Francisco's noted song writers and performers, the ever dynamic Lauren Murphy. An obvious harbinger of the canon of Golden Gate Park / Haight Ashbury folklore, Judge has resumed his rightful place in the hierarchy of Rock n Roll Royalty in the city by the bay & augmented by the contributions of sultry singer extraordinaire, Lauren Murphy. The past few years have been tenuous at best for both Judge & family & the burgeoning cult following of Lansdale Station. Replete with self-penned tunes of both Judge & Lauren, the bastion once known as the birthplace of psychedelia is somewhat reminiscent of those storied, legendary times by the syncopated rhythm of Lansdale Station. Comparisons are inevitable while perpetuating an era gone by when pungent smells of the era permeated the Haight Ashbury district but seems to be a non-entity in reference to the band. The affiance to reemerge as a staple of west coast supremacy has come to fruition and the doldrums of mediocrity from others has been put to rest. All ancillary endeavors have been eradicated as Lansdale Station prepares for a neoteric CD release & a myriad of opportunities await the band from their collective efforts. Frustration is always a paradox when trying to resurrect an entity that revolves around a money maker that is a passion as much as it is a vocation. Paradigm or paradox, the show is back on the road, as it should. The coterie of their ilk is minuscule in terms of numbers but the fan base has reached a numerical zenith, a link to the legendary free-concerts in long ago counter culture fodder for music trivia. These are the songs of the heart, the nexus of glory & the vision that has brought Judge & Lauren from the brink of family destruction to the pinnacle of greatness. Nancy Nevins would say "What's a little brain damage when it's rock n roll" & that statement becomes self-explanatory. Their success becomes our success as was their pain was our pain. Where they play in the demographic area becomes a moot point, many traverse that musical Appian Highway to watch & listen to the music that soothes the hearts & broadens the smiles, a key element in today's genre. I think it's time to rock, the boys ( & girl ) are back in town & leaving no prisoners. Off your ass & on your feet, as the adage goes, and don't forget to dance.
Friday, January 20th, the legendary band ZERO will return to San Francisco's Great American Music Hall, giving everyone a reason for a real party. The show will be a Celebration of Life for lead vocalist, Judge Murphy, who beat liver cancer & received a successful transplant in September of 2011. This will also be the only core band appearance for ZERO, in the Bay Area for some time; featuring Steve Kimock, Bobby Vega, Greg Anton, Judge Murphy, & Chip Roland. "They didn't think I would make it. I'm very lucky to be here. During my darkest hour, my musical brethren, friends, & fans showed tremendous support for me & my family. I couldn't have done this without them." (quote Judge Murphy) This 'Celebration of Life' will commemorate this heartfelt thanks, joy, & power through music, proving that sometimes "A Chance in a Million" happens. The crystal connotations simply imply the frailties along the long and winding road of rock n’ roll icons. One is perceived as a Shaman of the noted past of San Francisco folklore and the other an ingénue of obvious genetics and augmented with the innate ability to write and play the songs of the heart. The collective efforts of Judge & Lauren Murphy are the collaboration of storied past with a glimpse of an untapped future, a rebirth of the sensationalized San Francisco sound of sixties glory. This sweeps you up with a readiness and confidence that takes your feet out from underneath you. Opener "Family Asylum" could be the greatest Johnny Cash/June Carter gem you've never heard, packed with crazy relatives, cool turns of phrase, death bed worry and a vibe the boys at Folsom Prison would've loved. From there, the wind whips us westward into the "Blue," with ringing guitars and manly energies suggesting both surf rock and the Los Angeles rough boy rock of The Blasters. And so it goes for the remaining five cuts, shifting wildly yet grounded in something solid. When most people reference "roots music" or "Americana" it's often a cheap way of saying rock 'n' roll with a touch of twang. However, ...... read more

Paul Liberatore: 'Battle of the Bands' showcases local musicians. It's a Wednesday night, normally a slow one on the Marin club scene, but Sweetwater Station is buzzing with lights, cameras, action and a whole lot of local musicians raring to plug in and play. It looks like the set of a music video, and that's pretty much what it is, except this is a video shoot on a rather large scale, a marathon that will go late into the evening. Nine local bands are in line to have a Comcast video crew record them performing live on the Larkspur club's stage for a Bay Area cable TV show called "Battle of the Bands."..........."You can't get anywhere unless you get your music out there for the right reasons," says Judge Murphy, a singer with his wife, Lauren, in the Marin country rock band Landsdale Station. "A lot of musicians think you go for the major record deal and then you're a rock star with other people schlepping for you. But it doesn't work that way. The music industry has changed. You don't go for the big record deal anymore. You do things like this. We get to be on TV and play our tunes. It helps perpetuate what we do." XXXXX I appeared on KGO-AM’s (810) Ronn Owens on Friday Dec. 21, playing two hours of Bay Area music for a show entitled “The Best Music You’ve Never Heard.” For five years I did the show with Pete Wilson, who died last July, and Ronn wanted to revive it in his honor. It worked. Something was shining down on us. Must have been the oversized image of Wilson’s head they put on his old studio chair. For two hours we got no turkeys, just really great unsigned bands, including Sherry Austin, Mighty Mike Schermer, Colby Pollard, Lauren and Judge Murphy, the Attila and Dave Project and the Wicked Sons. You can get the list and links to their sites at You’ll be surprised at how much great talent there is in the area, and how many great musicians can’t get signed to major labels anymore. We’ll do the show again in 2008.
Well, it was close, folks. We entered our version of "Mercy". Congrats to Jennifer Lee. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of submissions, we were honored to be one of the 25 tracks selected for the voting loop today. Thanks KGO! Read More

Dear friends & family, It is with great pleasure we announce the addition of Sam Price on bass & Sam Johnston on keys , pedal steel, & harmonica. Chip Roland is taking some time off , and Lansdale Station wishes this musical brother all the best. It is our great fortune to be blessed with the addition of the versatile Sam Johnston , who's amazing voice can be heard on pedal steel, keys, harmonica, and upon occasion, accordian. See "BIO" link for Sam's full list of accolades. Liam Hanrahan is currently involved with Zero and taking some time off of Lansdale Station to explore other musical endeavors. Before Liam's departure, he recommended New Orleans bassist, Katrina Refugee, Sam Price for the bass chair. Hey Ya'll! Come on down and join us at our new My Space Site.
It is with deep sorrow that I face this new day with out my friend, Vince Welnick. A fabulous pianist, organ player, & incredibly skilled vocalist. This guy made the "Chance in a Million " recording sessions Pro. His fine vocal work on 'Home on the Range' 'Horses' & 'Chance in a Million' gave these songs a special soulfulness. Vince was a very caring , sensative, & kind person, & I count myself lucky to have known & worked w/ him. Our most recent show together was the Chet Helms Memorial in Golden Gate Park. I think we need to rally the troops and do a Memorial to Vince now. The Music Business has lost a special player. Fly on Little Wing. ~peace, Judge

Working at Legendary Plant Studios was a wonderful experience. The notes that live in it's walls, tunnels, hallways, & amazing equipment, come alive, commanding reverence. It is not a case of 'if these walls could talk", for they sing with history; It's spirits join in duet, adding their intonations to these songs, in an ever evolving process. With each listen of the CD, nuances not noticed before continue to morph , taking on a life of their own. It was an honor to be where so many musical pioneers made their records years ago, when vinyl still crackled on record players: Sacred Musical ground, this is Church. Thank you to all who contributed their love & skill, for this is a "Heart" to be proud of * Mastered by John Cuniberti of Plant Studios, see his vast discography at
Dear Folks, This CD is the culmination of many months of production of these musical works by some of the Bay Area's finest musicians. This project was financed totally by the producer without any industry support. These musicians are responsible for hundreds of works with many famous musicians for which the industry netted all the proceeds. On behalf of these fine players, I urge you to purchase this CD to support not only the fine musicians , but to help aid the musicians of New Orleans & the Delta affected by Hurricane Katrina. A portion of the sale of each CD will go directly to them. In an age of much musical piracy, we support the musician & honor the publishing rights therein. ~Judge Murphy
